Create and find Spontaneous Moments

Written by Marlon Randeniya

Use Spontaneous Moments for meaningful learning outside a child’s current Journey focus. Keep a document in the Journey when it supports that Journey’s learning, planning or reflection—even if the learning was unexpected.

To create a Moment, save a child document, then move it to Moments. This moves the document; it does not keep a copy in both places.

Find a child’s Spontaneous Moments

On Journeys, open the child’s three-dot menu and select Spontaneous moments.

Child menu: 1 opens the three-dot menu; 2 selects Spontaneous moments.

  1. Child’s three-dot menu.

  2. Spontaneous moments.

Choose Today, Last 30 days or Over 30 days, then open the document. Check Type and Creator if it is missing.

Spontaneous Moments list: 1 selects a date range; 2 opens the saved Jotting.

  1. Date range.

  2. Open the saved document.

Create a Spontaneous Moment

Only unshared documents can move. Existing Journey-stage placements and source/follow-up links do not carry across.

For a new note, open Journeys → Observation → Jotting.

Create something new on Journeys: 1 selects Jotting under Observation.

  1. Start a Jotting.

Choose the child.

Who is this about: 1 selects Maya P, the example child.

  1. Select the intended child.

With No assistance selected, enter your note and select Save.

Jotting editor: 1 No assistance; 2 enter the note; 3 Save after adding content.

  1. No assistance.

  2. Write your note.

  3. Save after adding content.

Open the saved document’s Follow Ups tab. In the Journey card, select Move to Moments. Start here if the document already exists.

Saved child document: 1 opens Follow Ups; 2 selects Move to Moments in the Journey card.

  1. Follow Ups.

  2. Move to Moments.

Confirm Move to Moments, or choose Keep in Journey to cancel.

Move to Spontaneous Moments confirmation: 1 confirms Move to Moments; Keep in Journey cancels.

  1. Confirm the move.

Check the Moments list shown above. The document stays unshared.

Move a moment into the active Journey

Open the document’s Moments tab and select Move to Journey.

Saved Moment: 1 opens Moments; 2 selects Move to Journey.

  1. Moments.

  2. Move to Journey.

Confirm Move to Journey, or choose Keep in Moments to cancel. The child needs an active Journey; Mana uses their newest active Journey, which may differ from the original.

Move to Journey confirmation: 1 confirms the move; Keep in Moments cancels.

  1. Confirm the move.

Check the Journey card shown above and re-link relevant stages or follow-ups. Moving alone does not immediately update the saved assessment or Journey reports.

If the location looks wrong, check with your manager or Mana before repeating the move.
