What is the background summary in a Journey?

The background summary is a document Mana automatically generates at the start of a Journey, giving educators a helpful starting point based on what's already been recorded for the child.

If you have this toggled on, when you create a Journey for an existing child, you might notice a document appear showing as "background summary". Mana generates it automatically, pulling together what's already been recorded for that child to give you a helpful starting point before you begin planning.

What it includes

The background summary draws on the information already in Mana for the child, things like previous observations and learning context. Think of it as a quick snapshot of where the child is at, so you're not starting from scratch.

Enabling or disabling the background summary

The background summary is a team-level setting. If you have a manager role in Mana, you can turn it on or off for your team:

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Select Team Features

  3. Open Journeys

  4. Toggle the background summary on or off

If you can't see this setting, check with your centre manager, they'll be able to adjust it for the team.
