Customising the stages for your centre’s learning journeys is a simple way to ensure that the cycle of planning in Journeys reflects your centre's unique approach.
Let’s walk through how you can set these stages to suit your centre’s cycle of planning:
Step 1: Check Your Framework Selection
Before editing your planning stages, ensure the correct framework is selected:
Click your Profile Icon.
Go to Team Settings > Frameworks.
Confirm the correct framework is applied:
For example:
QKLG (Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline) will apply to children over 3.
EYLF (Early Years Learning Framework) will apply to those under 3.
Mana automatically aligns the correct framework by age.
Step 2: View & Edit Default Planning Stages
Navigate to the Journeys section.
The default stages will already be populated based on your selected framework.
You can now customise each stage:
Edit the Title – Adjust stage names to reflect your terminology (e.g., “Observe & Assess”).
Set the Context – This determines how Mana measures documentation for that stage (e.g., Planning, Reflection, Assessment).
Select a Default Documentation Type as appropriate.
⚠️ Why context matters: Mana uses the stage’s context to measure context of documentation being completed- ensuring balanced meaningful contributions across the planning cycle.
Step 3: Add, Reorder, or Remove Stages
To delete a stage:
Click the three dots next to the stage and select Inactive. To add a new stage:
Click + New Stage, then enter:Title
Context
Default documentation type
To reorder stages:
Drag and drop using the two lines on the right side of each stage. Please note:
Changes to stages only apply to new journeys created after the change.
Existing journeys will retain their original structure and will not be affected retroactively.
Stages are filtered to show all active stages but you can click on this green Active to change the filter and see all inactive stages.
