How to discuss a catch-up

How to reply to a catch-up using Discuss, and where your message appears

When your child's educator shares a catch-up, you can respond to it with Discuss — no need to open a separate message. Your reply lands in Chat, linked to the catch-up so your educator can see exactly what you're referring to.

💡 This article describes Families 2, the updated family experience. If the app on your phone doesn't match what you see here, your centre is still on Families 1 — that's set by your service, not something you can change yourself. Every service moves to Families 2 on 24 August 2026, so you'll see this experience by then whatever your centre does in the meantime.

How to discuss a catch-up

  1. On your Home feed, find the catch-up you'd like to respond to.

  2. Select Discuss on the card — it is the speech-bubble icon.

  3. Type your message. You'll see a small preview of the catch-up above the text box, showing which story your message is linked to.

  4. Tap Send.

Your message will appear in Chat under your child's conversation, with the catch-up attached. The catch-up preview clears from the input box after you send.

Sending a message without linking a catch-up

If you want to send your educator a general message, go directly to Chat and select your child's conversation. Messages sent from Chat work the same way as before — no catch-up linked, just a regular message.

When will your educator reply?

Educators receive your message in their Mana inbox. Response times will vary — your centre's educators are generally in the room with children during the day. If something is urgent, reach out to the centre directly by phone.
