Managing your notification settings in Mana Families

The two push alerts, the two email types, the four email frequencies and what Automatic timezone means

You choose which alerts Mana sends you and how often. Everything is in AccountNotification preferences.

💡 This article describes Families 2, the updated family experience. If the app on your phone doesn't match what you see here, your centre is still on Families 1 — that's set by your service, not something you can change yourself. Every service moves to Families 2 on 24 August 2026, so you'll see this experience by then whatever your centre does in the meantime.

Push notifications

Push notifications are alerts sent directly to your device. There are two, and you can turn them on and off separately:

  • New documents shared — reports, photos and files from the centre.

  • Messages from staff — direct messages from educators.

Turning one off does not affect the other. If you want to hear about messages but not every document, turn off New documents shared and leave Messages from staff on.

Email notifications

Emails go to the address you signed up with. There are two you can switch on or off:

  • Document summaries — a digest of newly shared documentation.

  • Important announcements — centre closures, events and policy updates.

⚠️ Important announcements are how your centre reaches you about closures. If you turn this off, you will not be emailed when your centre closes unexpectedly.

How often emails arrive

Select Email frequency to choose how often Mana emails document summaries. There are four options:

  • Immediate — updates are sent straight away, except between 8 pm and 7 am.

  • End of day — one digest each day at 6 pm in your timezone.

  • Weekly — one recap each Friday at 6 pm in your timezone.

  • Off — no family update emails at all.

Which clock those times use

Those 6 pm times are measured against your Email timezone, which sits just below Email frequency. It is set to Automatic, and the screen explains what that means: “Automatic uses your profile country, then Australia/Sydney.”

If your digests arrive at an odd hour, select Email timezone and search for your own city — the full timezone list is there.

If push notifications aren't arriving

On some devices, Mana's notification permission can be blocked at the device level. If alerts still aren't arriving after you've turned them on in Mana, open your phone's own Settings app and check that Mana has permission to send notifications. Your browser may ask for the same permission separately.

You can change any of these at any time, and changes take effect straight away.
